The countdown to Market is on
Only two weeks until Opening Day at Perkasie Farmers Market
Thanks for a great Preview Market!
It was a treat to get out for our Preview Market last weekend at Horsham Farmers Market to get to know folks and get excited for Opening Day June 12th.
We are rapidly approaching and looking forward to Opening Day at Perkasie Farmers Market Saturday June 4th from 9a-12n. There are lots of local vendors growing and preparing great things to share and we’re looking forward to getting back into the swing of Market season with all of you.
In the meantime, we’re still feeling green!
Our spring greens have been happy this week and we’re offering our lettuce blend as well as spinach this weekend. There are so many great recipes out there for bright spring salads and with the hot weather this weekend, nothing sounds better - except maybe a chilly refreshing spinach smoothie.
Back again this week is the unbeatable spring broccoli rabe, a house favorite with pasta for packing weekday lunches. New this week we have bok choy, a perfect choice for a quick fried rice dinner with a healthy dose of scallions to finish it off.
This week we have two fresh herbs on offer - parsley and dill. These two play well together in a pesto for pasta or salads, or paired with barley and hazelnuts for a bright but filling grain salad.
What’s going on around the farm
We are in our spring interstitial period where things are growing along in time for market but not showing up too early. Strawberries are in their final countdown to ripening and the snap peas are getting another line of trellis at least once a week; we’ll soon be hunting for blooms telling us that their tender pods are almost here. Green garlic will be out of the ground and we’ll be snipping off scapes before we know it - and somehow it won’t be much longer til we’re harvesting the bulbs to cure for storage.
Field flowers are getting taller by the day and the starts we’re potting up for market are growing stronger by the day. The greenhouse is filled to brimming with more seedling trays packed between our overwintered herbs and eucalyptus, and this season’s dahlias and ginger.
All just to say - we’re enjoying everything this season is already offering and are looking forward to what’s next!
Thank you for joining us this season!
Stay well.
Regards,
Rosemary + Pete
