It’s almost fall
but we’re still savoring summer while we have it
Our website will be stocked this evening at 6pm for pickup at Perkasie Farmers Market this Saturday. Not all items included in this preview will be available for pre-order and we may have a few extra items at market. As always, you’ll find all the good veggies and location info at wrockhill.com/shop.
Great greens
The classics are back in force! Curly kale is once again joined by lacinato “dino” kale on our table this week - perfect for end of summer salads or an early autumn soup. They’re joined this week by tender baby arugula, and ideal green for adding some spice to your salad mix or topping pasta as a pesto, perhaps with some roasted cherry tomatoes on top, too.
Microgreens are of course on the table, this week in herbal form with basil and cilantro packs. Tender red pac choy microgreens will also make an appearance alongside our favorite lightly spicy radish micros. Microgreens are showing up on sandwiches, salads and blended into smoothies at home and out and about - there’s so much to love about these little leaves!
Herbs, alliums and our favorite aromatics
We’re happy to be bringing garlic with us each week, along with cured onions for all your caramelizing needs. Rounding out the aromatics this week are chives, cut celery and fresh cut rosemary bunches to add a little extra oomph to any dish. If you’re already thinking ahead to winter gifts or just looking for an easy kitchen project, consider putting together some fresh herb salt to enjoy throughout the seasons ahead.
We’re delighted to be harvesting our baby ginger at long last! This tender root has a beautiful floral aroma and flavor that make it a favorite for tea, cocktails or mocktails, and baking. It has a pale pink tint and such a thin skin we don’t often peel it before grating it into our favorite dishes. It’s an easy keeper, too - give it a good scrub, pay dry and pop in the freezer in an airtight container; you can grate it right from frozen with no extra steps!
Summer crops are still hanging in there
Even with the summer storms, peppers keep picking on! Sweet frying peppers and our favorite shishito peppers are still growing well and finding their way into many of our meals - especially in a quick grilled salad with this season’s sweet corn while it’s still around.
Red and green okra are a perfect pair for frying up if you’re feeling bold and tender green beans are an easy choice for a family-favorite supper side with a bit of parmesan. We’re still getting eggplant but their season seems to be growing shorter - get in your favorite eggplant parm recipes while they’re still in season.
And, of course, we’ll have flowers, too!
The chrysanthemums are still shaping up for fall, but the dahlias and celosia are having their moment in this end of summer heat wave.
Thank you for your support + feedback.
We appreciate your taking on this season with us and we look forward to seeing you at Market this weekend!
Stay well.
Regards,
Rosemary + Pete
