Welcome, September!
We’re back at Market this weekend!
Our website will be stocked this evening at 6pm for pickup at Perkasie Farmers Market this Saturday. Not all items included in this preview will be available for pre-order and we may have a few extra items at market. As always, you’ll find all the good veggies and location info at wrockhill.com/shop.
Greens are growing on
We’re happy to have our dark leafy greens back in rotation as the fall plantings get going. In addition to the lacinato “dino” kale we grow all year long, we’re also toting along our first picking of everyone’s favorite curly kale. Curly kale is the classic kale that springs to mind when most folks think of this category; the ruffled leaf shape means that curly kale benefits from a quick massage before being used in fresh salads and is a great choice for heartier dishes such as kale and white bean soup.
As we re-enter soup season, the classics are also along - we’ll be bringing carrots with us this week along with cured onion and cut celery. Is it too soon for a rich chickpea and noodle soup? Never! If you’re thinking ahead to fall favorites already, it’s prime time to turn some green beans into a hearty green bean casserole.
Some summer crops are still hanging on
The rainbow cherry tomatoes are still picking, as is the red and green okra, quite happily; I’ve recently been recommended to try roasted cherry tomatoes over CouCou prepared with coconut milk and it’s at the top of my to-cook list this weekend. Sweet frying peppers and our favorite shishito peppers are also picking on and would be a perfect addition to this - or any - grilled summer dish. If you’re searching for a little spice, of course jalapenos are along, too.
Fresh cut herbs and flowers
While some flowers ended up a bit too flat after the recent storms, we will be bringing fresh cut bouquets nonetheless! For your plate we’ll have fresh cut herbs including chives, basil and parsley and a selection of our favorite microgreens. Of course we’ll be bringing garlic, too, for all your allium needs.
Thank you for your support + feedback.
We appreciate your taking on this season with us and we look forward to seeing you at Market this weekend!
Stay well.
Regards,
Rosemary + Pete
