A rainbow of veggies
green beans, gold potatoes, beautiful berries
Digging for gold
Our first gold potatoes are coming to market this week - ready to roast for any occasion! Plenty of gorgeous carrots will be along, too, ready for shredding into salads or throwing on the grill. Of course scallions are back for a final flourish on any dish, and sweet onions are along for all your sandwich-topping needs.
Essential Summer veggies
A veritable mountain of verdant green beans will be on our stand Saturday; is this a great week to try out some dilly beans? Perhaps. Maybe you’re more of the blanch and freeze school for a perfect green bean side in the dead of winter. There’s no wrong way with local veggies! If you’re putting things by, our “pickling” cucumbers are a great choice for any family recipes; not to worry if you’re not ready for pickling, these cukes are perfect for fresh eating, too!
Back again are our patty pan summer squash for grilling on their own or shredding into the summer favorite zucchini bread. Some say that okra isn’t for everyone, but with options like pickling or frying on the table, it may be time to give them another shot.
Great greens
While lettuce takes a summer hiatus, our dark leafy greens are growing on beautifully. Rainbow Swiss chard leads the way, ready for wrapping up a crisp summer slaw. The kale side of things is staying strong with both red Russian kale and lacinato “dino” kale coming along to market. If you’re seeking a deeper green for your favorite salad, either of these will be a great fit.
Fresh cut herbs and flowers
Thanks to all the rain and heat, we’re seeing a flood of sunflowers in our fresh cut bouquets this week. Of course we’re bringing some tasty fresh herbs - cutting celery, basil and parsley. Consider whipping up some chimichurri for topping grilled veggies this weekend.
Beautiful berries
We’re delighted to have our own blackberries with us this week - ready for churning into a chilly frozen yogurt treat. And back again are blueberries from our friends at Vulture’s Roost in Ottsville. Cindy and John tend this 4 acre orchard with organic practices and are fabulous farm friends to have. We’re so glad to be sharing the fruits of their work with you again this weekend!
Thank you for your support + feedback.
We appreciate your taking on this season with us and we look forward to seeing you at Market this weekend!
Stay well.
Regards,
Rosemary + Pete
