Strawberries are here!
Just in time for Opening Day at Perkasie Farmers Market
It’s Perkasie Farmers Market Opening Day at last!
We are only a handful of days away from Opening Day at Perkasie Farmers Market Saturday June 4th from 9a-12n. There are lots of local vendors growing and preparing great things to share and we’re looking forward to getting back into the swing of Market season with all of you.
Spring Essentials
We’ve got weekend strawberries, too, of course! And our very first sugar snap peas will be with us this week. The peas are just getting started and we can’t wait to be filling a few flats of these sweet, crunchy spring treats to share with you!
We’re bringing the greens, great and small!
This week we’re happy to offer our trio of dark leafy greens - lacinato “dino” kale, red Russian kale and tender rainbow chard. These greens are a great choice for a hearty salad, mixing into an easy quiche or a pot of caldo verde - depending on your menu and the weather. We’ll also have baby kale blend available this weekend, in case you’d rather not deal with any stems when putting together your favorite pasta dish.
Rounding out the big greens lineup are broccoli rabe and bok choy this week. These two are both very much at home in a quick sautee with garlic, chili flakes and olive oil - no recipe, just follow your heart when deciding how much bite you’d like and serve alongside your favorite rice or toss with pasta.
On the much smaller side, we will be bringing a few favorite microgreens, too. Enjoy earthy beet and chard mix in wraps and salads, add some bright, lemony cress to summer soups or give our basil mix a try on fancy toast.
We can’t leave out the lettuce! In addition to our lettuce blend for the salad set, we will also have some heads of tender red leaf lettuce with us this weekend - perfect for tearing up for a quick salad or simply layering into burgers and sandwiches.
Getting to the root
This week we’re delighted to have both kohlrabi and hakurei turnips to share. Enjoy either (or both) sliced raw as a vehicle for your favorite dips, or give them a try roasted together for a new kind of french fry.
Herbs and Flowers, too!
Fresh herbs are the ideal addition to any meal - bringing extra zest to salads, waking up simple soups, adding an delightful brightness to sandwiches and smoothies - there’s no wrong way to enjoy them. For your perusal this week we are offering parsley, cilantro, dill and scallions, too!
Our first bunches of field flowers are still working their way to bloom, but this week we will have fresh cut bouquets with our peonies and mixed spring blooms to add some color to your counter. If it’s your plate that needs some florals, have a look at our floral blend microgreens, featuring both fresh edible flowers and their micro-leaves; this blend is bright, a hint tart and a colorful addition to any meal.
Thank you so much for joining us this season - can’t wait to see you all at Market!
Thank you for joining us this season!
Stay well.
Regards,
Rosemary + Pete
