Scapes, snap peas and sunflowers
Thanks for another great Opening Day!
Thank you for a great Opening Day at Horsham Farmers Market
The rain put a slight damper on the day but it was truly a delight to see everyone out and about! Even with the weather it was a lovely day full of new connections and friendly faces; thank you for making us feel so welcome!
Spring Essentials
While the berries are gone for the season, sugar snap peas are still going strong! Of course these pods are perfect for snacking on their own, but they can also brighten up a mushroom stir-fry, too.
We continue to harvest garlic scapes as well! If you’re looking to use them all up right now, look no further than garlic scape caesar dressing - we gave the scapes and scallions a char on the grill before whizzing them up for our salads this week. For long term garlic enjoyment, send them to the blender with a splash of olive oil and pop that in a jar in the freezer; any time you need a bit of bright garlic goodness, just scoop a spoonful into your winter dishes. This is our pick for saving summer’s brightest herbs for future use, too.
We are delighted to be bringing our first beets to Market this week, alongside the last kohlrabi of spring. Each of these are an excellent choice - on their own or together - for shredding into a crisp summer salad. Our favorite fennel is back again this week, ready for shaving to top pizza or braising with shallots.
Great greens!
Our dark leafy greens are teaming up again this week for all your culinary needs. Red Russian kale is our pick for fresh eating, whether in a salad or wrap or smoothie. Try out Tuscan kale in a warm side dish for rainy days or give it a chance roasted this week. Our rainbow Swiss chard is a great choice for simple sautes or a slightly more ambitious Spanish tortilla that can serve as dinner, weekend brunch or weekday lunch.
Let us share more salad greens this week - we’re bringing head lettuce and our lettuce blend, too! Our microgreens pack a lot of flavor in their tiny leaves, perfect for adding some extra zip to your salad bowl and sandwiches. This week we’re offering sweet basil mix alongside spicy cress, earthy and crisp chard-beet blend and our colorful floral mix, topped with fresh edible blooms. If you’re seeking a bit of spice, we have a mustard mix microgreen that will add just the right bite!
Herbs and Flowers, too!
Sunflowers are starting their star turn, so look out for these butter yellow blooms in our fresh cut bouquets starting this week. As far as herbs, our scallions are back again alongside fresh-cut parsley - perfect for turning into a bright chutney or saving for later by preparing a simple, versatile herb salt.
Thank you so much for joining us this season - can’t wait to see you all at Market!
Thank you for joining us this season!
Stay well.
